RESEARCH ASSISTANT I, II or III

The candidate will conduct research on the molecular evolution of genes employing both molecular biological and bioinformatic approaches. Current NSF-funded projects in the lab are: 1) investigating the origin and evolution of meiosis, and 2) constructing a multi-gene "tree of life" of eukaryotic microbes. Duties will include independent research, management of laboratory and training/supervision of personnel.

Required: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or computer science with an emphasis in genetics and molecular biology.

Desirable: One or more years of experience in a basic science research setting. Master's degree in life science. Experience with one or more: yeast genetics, isolation and culturing of microbes, molecular biology (e.g. PCR, cloning, sequencing), microscopy, bioinformatic software design/programming/implementation, supervisory experience.
